Hi all,
A student is looking for a piper to help out in a studio recording at De Montfort University in Leicester sometime next week.
She has written her own tune and would like a piper to play in the background. Being a student she can’t afford to pay for a piper but she would be able to stretch to fuel costs and to baking a cake. She is also offering the chosen piper the chance to record their own piping if they so desire.
Anyone interested please leave a comment below and I will put you in touch! ![]()

I cannot offer next week but can offer weekends. I have had experience of people writing bagpipe music using Sibelius software which does not work with the bagpipes. the bagpipe is in the key of Bb ONLY and its notes are NOT at concert pitch. The result is that the Sibelius music is not in “bagpipe speak” and it usually does not work properly. There are some new bagpipe chanters in concert pitch but i have no experience of how they sound compared to “normal” bagpipes. If i tried out the music i might be able to transpose it, but i would not be so confident as to simply turn up at a recording study to record a tune i had not worked on beforehand. If Richard Dawson is close enough to make a couple of journeys, and can sight read excellently, then i would say let him go for it. I could also provide use of lowland bagpipes to constrain the volume and might also bring my daughter with her Scottish harp since she is used to transposing and also went to de Montford for her degree! Always willing to assist students if there is a whiff of bagpiping involved.

Thanks for the offer Iain – glad to see you willing to help out students with anything bagpiping related!
I’ll pass on your message to her!
