Bagpiper Bryce McCulloch serving the haggis on Burns Night for Gary Lineker

Bagpiper Bryce McCulloch serving the haggis on Burns Night for Gary Lineker

Burns night or as some call it Burns supper is the celebration of the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns. The evening is traditionally held on his birthday, the 25th January although it is quite common to celebrate it on or around the time usually on the nearest Saturday.

Although traditionally a Scottish event, Burns Suppers take place throughout the UK and worldwide. Each year we receive more and more requests to have pipers play at these nights showing the popularity of them!

There are three things you will find at all Burns Suppers and that is a haggis, Scotch whisky (only the best!) and a few of Robert Burns poems such as Auld Lang Syne.

There are some typical duties a piper performs at a Burns night:

  • Pipe the guests into the room
  • Pipe the haggis in to the room
  • Pipe the haggis out of the room
  • Pipe the guests out of the room
  • Pipe a few tunes during intervals at dinner to entertain guests

Burns night is a very busy period for pipers and as such you won’t find a piper anywhere come January or even November/December for some of the best pipers. We can only urge you to book early to avoid disappointment!
