Location (Region Covered): Aberdeenshire and Tayside.

Dress: Full Pipe Major No1’s and a selection of No2 uniform and tartans.

Experience: Started piping in 1973. Joined Grampian Police Pipe Band in 1986. I was appointed Pipe Sergeant in 1989 and Pipe Major in 1997. A post I still hold. I have played all over the world at major and minor events either leading the band or as a solo player.

London bagpiper Mark McLaughlan

Name: Mark McLaughlan

Based: Corby, Northants

Location (Region Covered): East Midlands, Eastern, South East, South West, West midlands, Yorkshire and Humber.

Dress: Full number one uniform with feather bonnet or day wear (Argyll jacket and Glengarry)

Experience: Over twenty five years experience playing in Pipe bands and solo at weddings, funerals, Parties, corporate and special events. I have performed on national radio and TV several times with my latest performance being on the Ant and Dec Saturday night takeaway show. Venues that I have played at include The Royal Festival Hall in London, The NEC Birmingham, Glasgow University, The Birmingham Synphony hall, Harrods and Althrop House. Previous clients include ITV1, GMTV, Sky TV, The Royal Bank of Scotland, The Rotary club, Earl Spencer and Harrods. I have also recorded with various bands and Artists ranging from traditional folk to Pop music.

Event type: Weddings, Funerals, Special events, corporate events, recording, TV, Orchestral and radio.

Experience: I am a young, but very experienced, bagpipe player living in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. I have been playing the pipes for eight years now, and I currently play with the ‘Strathclyde Fire & Rescue Grade 4 Band’.

Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to play at various events, in locations throughout Scotland, Holland, Belgium, Germany and even Las Vegas, Nevada!

Event type: I am available to play at many different events, including: Weddings, Funerals, Corporate Functions, Bowling Events, Parties, Hogmany nights and, of course, Burns Suppers.

Bagpiper Jonathan Whilock playing the bagpipes in the countryside

Name: Jonathan Whilock

Based: Staffordshire

Location (Region Covered): Staffordshire, Cheshire & Derbyshire. Most of the North Midlands.

Dress: I wear either no. 2’s (kilt & jacket) or no.1’s (full gordon highlanders dress kit) depending on the event requirements.

Experience: I’ve competed throughout England & Scotland with the Ashbourne Pipe Band for the last 15 years, winning many prizes. I have played a wide range of events on the Highland, Scottish smallpipes & Uilleann (Irish) pipes. The smallpipes & Uilleann pipes work really well indoors e.g. during the signing of the registar at weddings or playing during a funeral service. The Uilleann pipes also are able to play tunes that the highland pipes can’t e.g. Londonderry air.

Event type: Weddings, funerals, burns suppers, New Years Eve and any other special occasion on request.

Based: London, UK

Location (Region Covered): West Midlands, Eastern, Greater London, Northern Ireland, Yorkshire & the Humber, Europe, Scotland, East Midlands, South East, Wales, Southern Ireland, North East, North West, South West (Basically everywhere – I am freelance and will travel!)

Dress: Full Highland Uniform (including feather bonnet), No. 1 Highland Uniform (with Glengarry), Day Dress, a Tartan Dress if playing small pipes for background music.

Experience: I have been playing bagpipes for nearly 20 years and I now play with the University of Bedfordshire Pipe Band, England’s top pipe band. I play at many functions throughout the year including Hogmanay, Burns Suppers, St. Patrick’s Day, weddings, parties, funerals, coroporate events and I also teach the pipes. I am experienced in playing for highland and country dancing and could organise dancers to complement your event.
